It is the Third Day of PiBoIdMo 2012

So far so good. I’ve been writing an idea a idea. 2 out of the 3 are plotted enough for me to take them to the next level.

It has not been that easy this year. I am working on more chapter books lately and getting back into picture book has been slow. Time has not been abundantly available either.

But the key thing is my filters have become stronger. I am rejecting not-so-good ones even before I write them down. Not sure if that is a good thing or not. But I’ve been thinking about plot, story meat etc while thinking about the idea and dismissing simple ones.

The other reason is I want to focus on writing funny and wacky. So I’ve been trying to come up with ridiculous “What if” scenarios and for me that is a steeper climb. So I’ve discarded the usual stories that pop up in my head and sifting through the grains of sand to find the unusual.

It is more satisfying to be selective, to be discriminating and not write down every thing. Even if I have to write them down, perhaps in my idea book and not in my PiBoIdMo 2012 book.

I’ve set the bar for myself a bit higher and I am hoping I can turn more of the ideas into stories, with this method.

What are you doing different this time?
